  • John Kocur

    President

    John Kocur is the founder and current president of the Loudoun Jazz Society. He is a full-time jazz saxophonist, composer, and educator, and is Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at George Mason University. He previously taught at Northern Virginia Community College where he directed the NOVA Nighthawks Jazz Ensemble. He serves as a saxophonist with the 257th Army Band of the D.C. National Guard, “the Band of the Nation’s Capital.” As a bandleader, he has released two albums of original music that received reviews in national media outlets. The John Kocur Quartet has performed at Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, Strathmore, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and the DC Jazz Festival. He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from George Mason University and a Master of Music Degree from Howard University and is a proud member of the D.C. Federation of Musicians Local 161-710.

  • Rob Maletick

    Vice President

    Rob Maletick (B.S. Arts Management with minor in Jazz Performance Shenandoah Univ. '99) holds the office of Secretary for the Loudoun Jazz Society. He has been performing professionally since the age of 15, and has been a full time saxophonist/audio engineer/clinician for the last 25 years. Rob's band has toured the US, Europe and Asia, and has served as the opening act for artists such as the Neville Brothers, Donnie McClurkin, Howard Hewitt, and Michelle Williams. His diverse musical background also lead to the opportunity to serve as Musical Director for rap artist Coolio when he appeared on TV show 8101 (MHZ Network). Other notable performance highlights include three presidential performances (one at the White House) including the Disney Salute to Youth (Kennedy Center) with President Bill Clinton hosted by Will Smith featuring Celine Dion, Boyz II Men, Kenny Loggins, and Emmylou Harris. Rob also performs regularly with the Special Occasions Band, Christian de Mesones, Phaze II Jazz and the Earth Wind and Fire Tribute Band. Rob has recently been awarded “Best Emerging Artist” by the Indie Music Channel (iHeart Radio), and his most recent release “Beautiful Daze” reached the top 30 on the US charts and top 20 in Europe.

  • Caleb Nei

    Treasurer & Webmaster

    Caleb Nei is a Washington, DC area jazz pianist who has played hundreds of events and concerts in the past years. He’s focused on providing elegant, engaging music to elevate important occasions. On most weekends Caleb can be found somewhere in the greater Northern Virginia area playing solo piano and in small combo situations. He finds great joy in making events memorable in a way only live music can. He appears regularly at Travinia Italian Kitchen and Lightfoot Restaurant in Leesburg, VA. Caleb Nei, a native of Huntington, Indiana, graduated from his hometown school, Huntington University, with a bachelor of arts in music. He has also studied jazz piano and jazz arranging at Shenandoah University. Caleb spent some years on staff at Sono Luminus, a GRAMMY-winning studio and record label specializing in recording classical and acoustic music. Caleb is the Worship Arts Director at a church in Berryville, VA.

  • Wayland Coker

    Board Member

    Wayland Coker is a jazz bassist (acoustic and electric) and member of the big band Swing Shift DC. He also plays the tuba, sousaphone, and baritone horn. He is a former U.S. Navy Musician, where he served five years (1977-1981), and is a graduate of the Armed Forces School of Music. Besides Swing Shift DC, Wayland can be heard playing at many local venues with various artists. Beyond music, Wayland is also a retired Naval Officer (1999), he also founded and operated a successful multinational consulting firm (Coker Logistics) until 2020, and now works on contract supporting the Department of Health and Human Services as a Health & Pharmaceutical Supply Chain expert. He is also an author. His first book is scheduled for release in June 2022 with a working title of “Overcoming in Business and Life” (Koehler Books).

  • Bob Eland

    Board Member

    Bob Eland is a life-long jazz lover. In sixth grade he wrote a term paper on the history of jazz. Sixty-seven years later he is the treasurer of the Loudoun Jazz Society. As an amateur bassist (both upright and electric) he has played in many bands including jazz, rock, bluegrass and polka, and enjoyed them all. In recent years Bob has played in jazz ensembles at NOVA Loudoun including those led by John Kocur and Lisa Fiorilli. Bob holds a degree in Computer Systems from Florida Atlantic University and is retired from a career in the federal government where he served as a system analyst.

  • Matt Trimboli

    Music Coordinator

    Guitarist Matt Trimboli attended the Berklee College of Music and received his BA in jazz performance from William Paterson University in his native New Jersey where he studied with Vic Juris, Bucky Pizzarelli, Rufus Reid, and David Berger among other renowned faculty. After gigging in the NYC area for several years, including a 2-year engagement with Grammy winner Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks on guitar and tenor banjo, he moved to Northern Virginia where he freelances on guitar, bass, and banjo in jazz combos, big bands and theater orchestras. Since 2002, he has also been the music director and staff arranger for Swing Shift, an 18-piece big band performing throughout the DC metro area.
